Opportunity:
RN – Med Surg/Tele
Job Details:
• Work 12-hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM or 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
• Schedule cycle runs every 6 weeks
• Weekend rotation requires 5 to 6 weekend shifts out of every 12 shifts on a 6-week schedule
• No on-call responsibilities
• Holiday expectations include working one shift of each major holiday (Thanksgiving Day or day after, December 24 or 25, and December 31 or January 1)
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required
• First-time travelers are accepted
• Patient ratios: RN 1:4-6, LPN 1:4-6, CNA 2-3 per shift
• Care for orthopedic and trauma patients including fractures, head trauma, and osteomyelitis
• Manage patients with acute or chronic diseases, post-op surgeries, and common comorbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, CHF, and electrolyte imbalances
• Perform trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucommander, insulin drips, heparin drips, and drips to titrate heart rate
• Demonstrate strong clinical assessment and med-surg nursing skills for a Level 1 Trauma environment
• Perform IV insertion and care, central line management, wound care, and post-op monitoring
• Provide cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation
• Coordinate care with interdisciplinary teams and manage discharge planning and patient education
• EMR system: EPIC
• IV Pump: Alaris
• Medication dispensing: Pyxis
• Monitors: Philips
• Unit-specific equipment includes VS3 vital sign monitors, portable vital signs monitors (Dynamap), bladder scanners, portable oxygen systems, external fixators, chest tubes, JP drains, Hemovac drains, Glucommander, PCA pain management, and suction machines
• May float to all adult med-surg/telemetry units within the facility
• Scrub color: Navy for RNs
• Free parking available around campus
• BLS certification required
• Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) certification required – traveler will be required to pass an EKG competency exam as part of compliance
• ACLS preferred
• National certification in medical-surgical or nephrology nursing preferred
Facility:
This facility is a 637-licensed-bed teaching hospital holding a Level 1 Trauma Designation. It features a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center, providing comprehensive specialty care to the community. The unit operates with robust support services including 24/7 respiratory therapy, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage, a Central Telemetry Unit, a PICC team, dedicated discharge nurses, and a resource team that floats to all units. A unit secretary is available on the unit from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM with house-wide call secretary coverage overnight.
