Opportunity:
RN – Med Surg/Tele
Job Details:
• 12-hour shifts available, either 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM or 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
• Weekend rotation required: 5-6 weekend shifts out of every 12 shifts on a 6-week schedule cycle
• No on-call responsibilities
• Holiday expectations: must work one shift of each major holiday (Thanksgiving Day or day after, 12/24 or 12/25, and 12/31 or 1/1)
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required
• First-time travelers accepted
• Patient ratio: RN 1:4-6, LPN 1:4-6, CNA 2-3 per shift
• Required certifications: BLS and Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) — must pass EKG competency exam as part of compliance
• ACLS preferred
• National certification in Medical-Surgical or Nephrology Nursing preferred
• Care for orthopedic and trauma patients, post-op surgeries, and patients with acute or chronic diseases including diabetes, hypertension, CHF, and electrolyte imbalances
• Required skills include trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucommander, insulin drips, heparin drips, and drips to titrate HR
• Perform IV insertion and care, central line management, wound care, and post-op monitoring
• Provide cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation
• Coordinate care with interdisciplinary teams and conduct discharge planning and patient education
• EMR: EPIC; IV Pump: Alaris; Med Dispensing: Pyxis; Monitors: Philips
• Unit equipment includes vital sign monitors, bladder scanners, portable oxygen systems, external fixators, chest tubes, JP drains, Hemovac drains, glucommander, PCA pain management, and suction machines
• May float to all adult Med Surg/Telemetry units within the facility
• Scrub color: Navy for RN
Facility:
This facility is a 637-licensed-bed teaching hospital with a Level 1 Trauma Designation, Chest Pain Center, and Stroke Center. The Med Surg/Tele unit consists of 35 beds operating at full census capacity. The department is well-supported with CNAs, unit secretaries, charge nurses, a PICC team, discharge nurses, resource team floats, respiratory therapy, hospitalists, intensivists, and a Central Telemetry Unit available around the clock.
