Opportunity:
RN – Med Surg/Tele
Job Details:
• Day/Night rotating 12-hour shifts with primary shift on days and some night coverage based on operational needs
• Day shift hours: 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM; Night shift hours: 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
• Every other weekend rotation required with holidays as needed
• Day/Night rotators will not be scheduled to flip between days and nights more than 2 times in a 6-week scheduling period unless an exception is requested by the employee
• Minimum 36 hours off required between the end of a scheduled night shift and the beginning of a scheduled day shift for patient care
• Self-scheduling unit
• Travelers are required to float as needed
• 2 years of acute care experience in the specialty required within the last 3 years
• Experience starting IVs required
• EPIC charting system experience required
• Must pass a telemetry exam prior to start with a score of 80% or higher; two attempts allowed
• Adult telemetry exam requires 100% identification of lethal rhythms (ventricular fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, asystole) and no incorrect answers on questions regarding 3rd degree heart blocks
• Pediatric telemetry exam covers ventricular fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, asystole, and sinus bradycardia
• Required certifications: BLS (AHA only), RN license
• Required skills include: accessing/managing ports, central line blood draw, feeding tube care and management, heparin, insulin, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, isolation precautions/PPE, med/surg telemetry, nasal cannula, oxygen administration, PCA, PICC line management, starting and maintaining IVs, substance withdrawal, surgical drains, wound care/wound vac, and previous law enforcement patient care
• Work on a 28-bed family practice and forensics unit with 18 general care beds and up to 10 correctional beds
• Care for adult med/surg patients with a variety of conditions and diagnoses under the Family Medicine service, including a geriatric population
• Unit treats Department of Corrections patients from various DOC facilities in Wisconsin with 0-10 DOC patients at any given time
• DOC patients are housed in a locked wing with double doors; staff are always accompanied by a DOC officer while assisting these patients
• Interdisciplinary support available including IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, transportation, and unit secretary
• Daily census of 20 patients with 25 rooms available
• Locals within 50 miles of the facility are not accepted
