Opportunity:
RN – Med Surg/Tele
Job Details:
• Night shift position from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
• Every other weekend and holiday required
• No on-call or standby requirement
• 29-bed Med Surg/Tele unit
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: Days 1:4-5, Nights 1:5-6
• Nursing Assistants available on unit with varying ratios by shift
• Float required to other adult medical/surgical nursing units
• No self-scheduling; block scheduling used based on staffing needs
• Charge nurse on all shifts takes an assignment; house supervisor present on all shifts
• Telemetry techs monitor patients 24/7; RNs are not required to read their own strips
• RNs required to titrate drips following a prescribed nomogram (Heparin, occasionally Nitro, Bivalirudin, Cardizem, and Insulin)
• Common patient diagnoses include Ortho Trauma (fractures, joint replacements), Vascular (fem-pop bypass, carotid endarterectomy, heparin drips, wound dressing changes), Urology (TURP, TURBT, continuous bladder irrigation), Neuro-Spine (laminectomy, fusion, back pain), OB/GYN Oncology, and Acute Medical admissions
• Equipment used includes CPAP, BiPAP, and High Flow Oxygen Therapy; no ventilators; RT support is present
• 1-2 years of acute care nursing experience required
• Charting system: Cerner
• Scrub color: Any color, clean and professional
• Orientation: 1 day computer training, 1-2 days precepted floor orientation
• Required certification: BLS (AHA)
Facility:
This is a Level 2 Trauma acute care facility offering a wide range of medical and surgical services. The Med Surg/Tele unit supports a diverse patient population across orthopedic, vascular, urological, neurological, and oncological specialties. The facility maintains strong staffing infrastructure with charge nurses, house supervisors, and nursing assistants available across all shifts to support quality patient care.
