Opportunity:
RN – Med Surg
Job Details:
• Work on a 29-bed medical surgical unit caring for patients 65+ with acute medical conditions
• Unit is divided into two sections: acute care for elderly patients and faster-paced observation patients
• Patient conditions include dementia, stroke, delirium, diabetes, kidney/liver/heart failure, respiratory issues, and cardiac dysrhythmia
• Patient ratios: 1:5 during day shifts, 1:6-7 during night shifts
• 1-3 years of nursing experience required
• Required certifications: BLS, NIHSS
• Skills required: MSU skillset, older adult experience, wound care, insulin drip management, tachycardia care, chest tubes, NGT, PEG tubes
• Ability to read and interpret cardiac strips preferred
• Weekend rotation schedule based on need with strong weekend program support
• No on-call responsibilities
• Charting system: EPIC with Alaris pumps, Pyxis medication system, and centralized telemetry monitoring
• May float to other MSUs or ICU for overflow situations (rare occurrence)
• Scrub color: Any professional color, no denim or camouflage patterns
• Free parking available in designated employee areas

This 228-bed teaching hospital operates as a Level IV Trauma Center and Level III NICU with Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center designation. The facility provides comprehensive medical services with 24/7 hospitalist coverage, respiratory therapy, and rehabilitation services including occupational, physical, and speech therapy. The hospital features advanced security systems for patient safety and maintains modern medical equipment and technology to support high-quality patient care.
