Opportunity:
RN – Med Surg/Tele
Job Details:
• Work 12-hour night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
• Every other weekend requirement (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday)
• Holiday requirement: 2/3 during winter, every other during other times
• No on-call or standby requirement
• Unit is a 27-bed Med Tele department
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: Day/Eve 1:4-5, Night 1:6 (up to 1:7 if working short)
• Nurse aides available with ratios of 1:7-9 on day/eve and 1:14 overnight
• Charge nurse and House Supervisor on all shifts; travelers may be asked to step into Charge role, especially on nights
• Must have acute care experience and comfort with complex patients
• Prior travel experience preferred; travel pairs will not be accepted
• Must have experience with drips and be comfortable titrating drips as needed
• Common titratable drips include insulin, heparin, cardizem, nitro, amiodarone, and octreotide; blood transfusion management required
• No oncology or chemotherapy knowledge required
• Common patient diagnoses include oncology/hematology, general medical, GI bleed, PE/DVT, sepsis, CHF, COPD, pneumonia, and FTT
• Centralized tele techs monitor and read strips; RNs are asked to be tele aware
• RT available in-house 24/7 overseeing multiple units; may include continuous CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow O2
• Float requirement: first to float within med-surg units; floats outside of med-surg only for observer needs or helping hands/tasking in 4-hour increments
• Charting system: Cerner
• Orientation consists of 1 day of computer training/CBT/regulatory and one 12-hour shift on the floor
• Scrub color: any color scrubs permitted; no logos from other health systems
• Required certification: BLS (AHA)

This is a Level 2 Trauma acute care facility offering a wide range of medical services to the surrounding community. The Med Tele unit supports a diverse patient population with complex medical needs, backed by centralized telemetry monitoring, around-the-clock respiratory therapy support, and a collaborative nursing team. The facility utilizes Cerner as its charting system and is committed to maintaining high standards of patient care across its med-surg units.
