Opportunity:
RN – Med Surg/Tele
Job Details:
• Work 12-hour shifts with both day (7:00 AM to 7:00 PM) and night (7:00 PM to 7:00 AM) options available
• Schedule cycles every 6 weeks with 5-6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
• No on-call responsibilities
• Holiday expectations include working one shift of each major holiday (Thanksgiving Day or day after, 12/24 or 12/25, and 12/31 or 1/1)
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required
• First-time travelers accepted
• Patient ratios: RN 1:4-6, LPN 1:4-6, CNA 2-3 per shift
• Required certifications: BLS and Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) – must pass EKG competency exam as part of compliance
• ACLS preferred
• National certification in medical-surgical or nephrology nursing preferred
• Care for orthopedic and trauma patients including fractures, head trauma, and osteomyelitis
• Treat patients with acute or chronic diseases, post-op surgeries, and common co-morbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, infections, CHF, and electrolyte imbalances
• Perform trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucommander, insulin drips, heparin drips, and drips to titrate HR
• Provide IV insertion and care, central line management, wound care, and post-op monitoring
• Conduct cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation
• Coordinate care with interdisciplinary teams and perform discharge planning and patient education
• Utilize EMR system EPIC, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors
• Work with unit-specific equipment including VS3 vital sign monitors, bladder scanners, external fixators, chest tubes, JP drains, Hemovac drains, Glucommander, PCA pain management, and suction machines
• Float to all adult med-surg/telemetry units within the facility as needed
• Scrub color: Navy for RNs

Facility:
This facility is a 637-licensed-bed Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital with designations as a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center. The Med Surg/Tele unit consists of 35 beds and maintains a comprehensive support structure including CNAs, unit secretaries, charge nurses, a PICC team, discharge nurses, resource team, respiratory therapy, hospitalists, and intensivists all available 24/7. The facility utilizes a Central Telemetry Unit for telemetry monitoring and fosters a busy but team-oriented unit culture.
