Opportunity:
RN – Med Surg/Tele
Job Details:
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required
• First-time travelers are accepted
• Patient ratios: RN 1:4-6, LPN 1:4-6, CNA up to 1:14
• Care for patients with acute or chronic disease, common co-morbidities including diabetes, hypertension, infections, and electrolyte imbalances
• Manage cardiac patients including post-cath, CHF, and a-fib cases
• Provide post-surgical care for general, ortho, and trauma patients
• Required skills include trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts and IV maintenance, glucommander, strong assessment and time management skills, care coordination with interdisciplinary team, discharge planning, and patient education
• Telemetry skills required: monitoring and interpreting cardiac rhythms, post-cath, TR bands, and post-cath groin site management (no sheath pulls)
• Required drip management: insulin, heparin, Cardizem, amiodarone, milrinone, Digoxin, and nicardipine; may titrate drips for HR but not for BP
• 6 months of EPIC experience required
• EMR system: EPIC
• IV Pump: Alaris
• Medication dispensing: Pyxis
• Monitors: Phillips
• Unit-specific equipment: VS3 vital sign monitors and Nova Glucose Stat Strips
• Required certification: BLS
• ACLS preferred; traveler will be required to pass an EKG competency exam during onboarding
• Certification in Med Surg is a plus
• Travelers will float to all Med/Tele units in house as needed and may also float to ED for holds
• Scrub color: Navy for RN

This healthcare facility is a large 637-licensed-bed hospital with a Level 1 Trauma Designation, serving as both a teaching hospital and a specialized center for chest pain and stroke care. The Med Surg units range from 20 to 36 beds each and operate in a busy, team-oriented culture. The facility provides comprehensive support services including CNAs, unit secretaries, charge nurses, a PICC team, discharge nurses, a Resource team, respiratory therapy, hospitalists, and intensivists available 24/7, along with a central telemetry monitoring unit.
