Opportunity:
RN – Med Surg/Tele
Job Details:
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required
• First-time travelers are accepted
• Patient ratio of 1:4-6 for RN and LPN with 2-3 CNAs per shift
• Care for patients with acute or chronic disease, post-op surgeries, and co-morbidities common to med-surg population including diabetes, hypertension, infections, CHF, and electrolyte imbalances
• Required skills include trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucommander, insulin drips, heparin drips, and cardiac monitoring
• Strong clinical assessment and med-surg nursing skills required for Level 1 Trauma Hospital setting
• IV insertion and care, central line management, wound care, and post-op monitoring required
• Telemetry interpretation and cardiac monitoring skills required
• Care coordination with interdisciplinary teams and discharge planning required
• Required certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support) and BCR (Basic Cardiac Rhythm) – travelers will be required to pass an EKG competency exam
• ACLS preferred but not required
• Medical-Surgical national certification preferred
• EMR: EPIC | IV Pump: Alaris | Med Dispensing: Pyxis | Monitors: Philips
• Additional equipment includes VS3 vital sign monitors, glucommander, PCA pain management, bladder scanners, chest tubes, JP drains, Hemovac drains, and portable oxygen systems
• Float to all adult med-surg/telemetry units in house as needed
• Scrub color: Navy blue for RN
Facility:
This facility is a 637-licensed-bed teaching hospital with a Level 1 Trauma Designation, Chest Pain Center, and Stroke Center. The Med Surg/Tele unit operates with 35 beds and robust support staff including CNAs, unit secretaries, charge nurses, a PICC team, discharge nurses, resource team, and 24/7 respiratory therapy, hospitalist, intensivist, and central telemetry monitoring services. The facility fosters a busy but team-oriented unit culture with free parking available around campus.
