Opportunity:

Job Details:
• Work on a 44-bed Telemetry unit (4 North/South) caring for medical-surgical, telemetry, observation, post cardiac cath (radial and femoral), appendectomy, colectomy, CHF, pneumonia, sepsis, abdominal pain, and COVID patients
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6 on both days and nights, which may be adjusted based on patient acuity
• CNA-to-patient ratio of 1:10-12 on both days and nights
• Weekend rotation required every other weekend
• No on-call responsibilities
• Holiday expectations include coverage for summer holidays (2 of 3: Memorial Day, Labor Day, July 4th) and winter holidays (1 from each group: Thanksgiving Day or day after, Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, New Year's Eve or New Year's Day)
• Block scheduling will not be accommodated
• Time off requests up to one week may be approved
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required
• First-time travelers are accepted
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
• Must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips
• Required skills include cardiac drips (non-titrating), medical-surgical unit skillset, wound care, and IV starts
• Charting system: EPIC
• Equipment used: Pyxis and Alaris
• May be required to float to other medical-surgical and telemetry floors, with travelers floating first
• Scrub color: Navy
• No artificial fingernails or extenders during direct patient care; natural nail tips must be kept less than ¼ inch long
• Free employee parking available on site
Facility:
This facility is a 231-bed teaching hospital located approximately 30 minutes from Chicago with no trauma designation. The telemetry unit is supported by a centralized telemetry monitor with a telemetry technician, a resource nurse available at night who floats between units, in-house hospitalists and respiratory therapists, a phlebotomy team, an IV/VAT team for difficult sticks and line placements, and occupational, physical, and speech therapy services available during the week.
