Opportunity:
Lab Specialist – Laboratory
Job Details:
• Evening shift, 8-hour shifts, Monday through Friday from 4:00 PM to midnight
• Weekend rotation required (1:4 weekends) with shifts from 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM or 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM
• At least 2 years of experience in a hospital laboratory required
• Must have high skillset in all microbiology areas per skills checklist
• Must be able to read complex cultures with minimal training, requiring someone who has worked almost exclusively in microbiology
• ASCP MT or MLS certification required
• Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology required
• Perform testing in the clinical laboratories at any complexity level
• Perform advanced troubleshooting, maintenance, and problem resolution
• Demonstrate strong decision-making skills and ability to work independently
• Ability to take on teaching and training responsibilities as needed
• Work effectively as a team member with physicians, clinic staff, and co-workers
• Required skills include: accessioning, aerobic culture, culture plating, cytospin, gram stain, hospital clinical laboratory, microbiology culture reading, organism identification (aerobic and anaerobic), PCR testing, plate set up, quick identification tests, rapid test kits, reporting test results, sensitivities, and specimen receipt
• Travelers are required to float as needed
• Must live more than 50 miles from the facility; locals not accepted
