Opportunity:
RN – Med Surg/Tele
Job Details:
• Variable day and evening shifts available: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM, 11:00 AM – 11:30 PM, and 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (nights)
• Every other weekend required (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday)
• Holiday requirement: 2 out of 3 holidays in winter, every other holiday during other times of the year
• No on-call or standby requirement
• Unit is a 27-bed Med/Tele department with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-5 on days/evenings and 1:6 on nights (up to 1:7 if working short)
• Nurse aides available with ratios of 1:7-9 on days/evenings and up to 1:14 overnight
• Centralized tele techs monitor and read strips; RNs are asked to be tele aware
• Charge nurse and house supervisor present on all shifts; travelers may be asked to step into charge role, particularly on night shift
• Common patient diagnoses include oncology/hematology, general medical, GI bleed, PE/DVT, sepsis, CHF, COPD, pneumonia, failure to thrive, and weakness
• Must have acute care experience and comfort with complex patients
• Must have experience with drips and be comfortable titrating drips including insulin, heparin, cardizem, nitro, amiodarone, and octreotide
• Must be comfortable managing blood transfusions
• No oncology or chemotherapy knowledge required
• Prior travel experience preferred
• Travel pairs will not be accepted
• Respiratory therapy available in-house 24/7 across multiple units; equipment may include continuous CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen
• Charting system: Cerner
• First to float within med-surg units; floating outside of med-surg only for observer needs or helping hands/tasking in 4-hour increments
• Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed but scheduling requests will be accommodated when possible
• All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
• Scrub color: any color scrubs permitted; no logos from other health systems
• Orientation consists of 1 day of computer training/CBT/regulatory and one 12-hour floor shift
• Required certification: BLS (AHA)

This Level 2 Trauma Center provides acute care services across a range of medical specialties in an inpatient setting. The facility operates a dedicated Med/Tele unit supported by centralized telemetry monitoring, respiratory therapy available around the clock, and a structured charge nurse and house supervisor model on every shift.
